Festivals – mediums of mindful celebration and collective awakening
“Nothing is more precious than being in the present moment. Fully alive, fully aware” – Thich Nath Hanh
Festivals inspire a range of emotions in us. They allow us to experience newer emotional experiences and inspire awakening from reflection and fresh realizations.
India is one of the world’s oldest and most diverse cultures. Indian culture is a composite mixture of varying styles and influences. Diversity of language, religion, food, architecture, art, clothing, customs and celebrations is what makes our 4500 year old civilization unique and full of life. In the process of mankind’s evolution one thing that has remained constant is the existence of festivals.
For as long as religion and culture provide solace for the soul, festivals will only continue to thrive. In a vast country like India, each religion has varied festivals of its own bringing the total count of festivals in a year to at least a 100, of which about 20-30 are extremely popular.
With increased awareness, there is more curiosity about concepts such as collective consciousness, mindfulness, divine connections, etc. Festivals carry special vibrations about them that have the potential to upgrade human energies.
Participating in the various festivals that our community celebrates inculcates consciousness and appreciation towards this spirit of celebration. Festivals open up a world of possibilities and bring with them opportunities to set new milestones. Not only do our cultural festivities establish a sense of belongingness within the community and empower us to do our bit for co-creation, they also show us how people can let go of any problems they may be undergoing in their present lives to unanimously celebrate the spirit of mankind thereby embracing hope and positivity.
The festivals we celebrate are a testimony of our diverse tradition and culture. While our interactions with the festivals we celebrate not only empowers us with mindfulness, it also opens up the scope for spiritual awakening. Consciously integrating rejuvenation and outlets for recreation in our lives can do wonders to re-energize us on our path to purpose and is instrumental in knowing ourselves much better.
